That looks absolutely disgusting. It's the culinary equivalent of drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa...ok not really, but it looks bloody awful. |

Pros:
They scored first
They scored 5
They got scoring from other than PAK line
Hinostroza and Hartman were flying
They won
Cons:
Gave up slew of chances (4-5 posts)
Kempny was a disaster out there
But...bottom line. 2 more points and half a season to go yet to tweak!

Im Ok with him pooping the bed every now and then during January/February.
Get him out there... let him take his bumps... and have him be a positive factor in May... Thats my hope... |

I really liked the Hawks tactic of having the Preds chase the puck all night long, nothing open at the blue line get it behind the net quickly because they're coming, nothing open behind the net work it back out the blue line, over and over and over again, and low and behold they ran the cycle at times and it worked because the Preds didn't want to get caught cheating along the boards if they worked the puck out and across the blue line.
Also like the one timer play the Hawks ran a bit outside the dot, where Panarin scored and others tried, many times Rinne didn't see the puck.
They also need to come up with a stat that honors the player screening the goalie, how many times have we seen AA do this |

I also have to say, I really enjoy watching the kids play, Vinny is becoming one of my favorites, last night Preds got a 3 on 2 going and 100mph Vinny comes out of no where and breaks it up. I agree with Dineen, if you can have someone who skates that fast and focus on defense then you've got someone who's going to be very hard to play against |

Oh and one more thing, I saw some zone passing last night as well, aka what the Pens did a ton of in the Playoffs and regular season. We know they are going to cover us man to man so based on the defenders position pass it to the area where I already have the advantage on the defender.
Wonder if there was something going on at the UC before the Hawks game because the ice surface was crap, I've only seen the puck bounce around that much when it's 80 to 90 degrees outside |

Good to see Hjammer looking to score more as well. The d have stepped up more lately. It wasn't too long ago that the dmen were close to or last in the league in goal scoring. |

tootoo was not terrible last night but if he is on the 4th line for playoffs we are probably out early. I still think we need one more forward in the 1/2 LW. Kruger comes back I assume Tootoo sits mostly and if we can find someone that has a little more Off ability at LW we might be tough to beat in the playoffs. I think Panik and Hartman are on the playoff top 9. So that would leave Hino, Des, Kero, moose, Motte and schmaltz to fight it out for the 4th line. My guess at this point would be HINO/DES/MOOSE assuming we can find someone to man the LW. I wonder what teams think of Gus (waiver exempt) if a team is more then likely going to lose a D prospect in EXP getting back a young Waiver exempt NHL ready D for 17/18 might be return some value along with maybe a 3rd? (would like to keep or 1st and 2nd since the draft is here. Someone mentioned Jannick hanson scored 21 ES goals last year in 67 games. makes 2.5 mil this year and next he has been hurt allot this year but has 5 goals in 18 games. Maybe Gus and a 3rd for Hanson 33% retained? the problem is the only teams in the west that are out of Playoffs are AZ and COL. I think in the east it might take another 2 weeks before any of them become sellers. |

A missed shot is a missed shot. Just because it happens to hit the post doesn't actually mean that much IMO. I don't think it is much more meaningful than other missed chances like the puck bouncing on Toews in close, or Panarin getting stopped on a nearly wide open net. It was a close game, but what separates these two teams to me is still the goal tending and the clutch play of top players.
The Preds had some chances right after the Hartman goal, hit the iron, but what I like is that after that the Hawks gave them pretty much nothing. Those final 5-7 minutes of the game, they didn't get a shot on goal and failed to sustain enough pressure on the Hawks.
I expected more fight from the Preds earlier in the game. The Hawks are still sitting up in that #1 or #2 spot in the division, but the Preds are in a dog fight of about 6 teams fighting for 2 spots. To me, they didn't play like a team that is desperate enough, given their situation. |

Smart play by him with the shot fake because it got him the open lane and it confused Rinne a bit, as he kinda had to pop up and down while trying to see through the screen. |

Nice win by the boy's .You have to be lucky to be good and good to be lucky . But IMHO This team has been much more engaged since the Outhouse game and all that hoopla has ended .And that is what I expected .To say that they play a team they are expected to beat is crazy, in a league that is built on parity . And injuries are no excuse ,it's called depth. The HAWKS have had their share of injuries this year and beaten some good teams . GO HAWKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

panerin owns the left circle...the guy his netting a pea through a pea hole...
yes ovie has done it longer..but panerin makes this look incredible easy with passes he shouldn't no be able to one time...
a gassed and vulnerable wings team comes to uc traveling for each game over the last 3 weeks...
hawks should get this if they decide to show up... |

And hats off to AA...that slapshot went through his legs. And I thought being a goaltender was crazy. A little higher and AA would be A3 (that's vocal humor).

Right!
On any given night any team can beat the other. Results are not as predictable as they used to be. That is why only Colorado and Arizona are out of the playoff hunt this late in the year. That is why we see a lot of 3 point games.
In this environment, the Hawks are not the only ones winning ugly. |

I agree completely, its games like last night that tell me the Hawks have a chance in the playoffs. They scored playoff type goals last night, every line was dangerous, but like JJ says, I don't know what the hell this team is? You just don't know what your going to get from night to night.
But have to say this offensive style will work very well vs teams like, the Wild, Preds, Blues, I really think this new wrinkle is going to give these teams fits, believe the coaching staff is on to something, let's see over a span of games if 5 on 5 shots on goal begin to favor us.

It's great to see the Hawks win those close games. Greasy goals and coming out on top of close games...that is how playoffs are decided in a lot of cases. |
